For those of you who haven't seen me for a while, there I am, in front of my new "Let's Twist Again" series, inspired by Chubby Checker and the dance he made popular in the 1960's.
It belongs to a series of photographic landscapes of repetitive yet chaotic and free bands of soft, pastel colors combined with more vibrant ones.
Mesmerizing effects of repetition and the impact of color no doubt stem from my youth in New York and Mexico City. I still recall the visual impact that MOMA's optical art exhibition "The Responsive Eye" made on me back in 1965.
MADRIDFOTO, Madrid's first international photography fair, took place May 7-10, 2009 and brought together 47 from all around Spain and 15 countries. The fair's advisory committee was comprised of Rafael Doctor (art critic and founder of MUSAC), Lorena Martínez de Corral (freelance curator and director of Expoactual), Rosa Olivares (curator, editor and director of the specialized publication EXIT) and Giulietta Speranza (Art Director of MADRIDFOTO)
I was invited to exhibit my pieces belonging to my "Let's Go Twist", "Subway", "Color" and "Asymmetries" series through the Drissien Gallery of Munich.
The Drissien Gallery of Munich will be presenting my new “Let’s Go Twist Again” series at the MADRIDFOTO Photography Fair (May 7-10, 2009). Mesmerizing effects of repetition, twisted, dance-like triptychs, journeys into the past and present, explorations of illusions and their psycho-physiological effects … and color, the impact of color and the artistic element of the line are all present my photographic work.
Perceptual ambiguities and movement created by patterns and lines have always forms part of my visual curiosity. Chubby Checker, Steve Reich, Brigitte Riley, Naum Gabo and Yaacov Agam are amongst the many that have influenced my work.

Last fall I exhibited at the ESTAMPA Contemporary Art Fair in Madrid (2008) and, more recently, at MADRIDFOTO, Madrid's first international photography Fair (May 2009) and at the Eunice Cortes Gallery, Madrid (June, 2009).
